| Gayani - My name is Gayani Gunathilake and I’m a 16 year old high school student. I came to Canada about 3 years ago and I live my family. I enjoy playing badminton and cricket. I also love nature. I’m volunteering at Charlottetown Boys and Girls Club and I also had participated in International Tea House (PEI). I also work at KFC as a part-time job. I (and my partner) participated in Sanofi-Aventis BioTalent (SABC) and won the third place in that competition. I (and my partner) also won the second place in 2009 Science Fair and we won three Speciality Prizes. They were “Best Animal-Related Project (animals of interest and applicability to Veterinary Medicine)” from Atlantic Veterinary College,“Best Project Relevant to the Filed of Laboratory Medicine or Health Care” from PEI Society of Medical Technologists, and “Outstanding Project in the Areas of Nutritional and Health Sciences” from NRC Institute for Nutrisciences & Health. I have also won “Math Award” and “Teachers’ Choice” awards from Junior High School ( in grade 9) and an award for being on top ten students in grade 10. After High School, I’m planning to go to University and study in the field of medince (Sciences). | | Agatha - My name is Agatha Yoo Hee Kang. I am studying at Charlottetown Rural High School in Prince Edward Island. Science has always been a part of me and it continues to enrich my life beyond measure. In fact, my curiosity and desire to learn more about science brought me this far, having the opportunity to participate at the National Science Fair. At the Provincial Science Fair, I won 2nd place with the project, and received several specialty awards titled: “Best Project Relevant to the Field of Laboratory Medicine or Health Care” and “Outstanding Project in the Areas of Nutritional and Health Sciences”. I always seize opportunities as they arise. I am a diligent student, with my average over 95%. On top of all school work, I also dedicate my time to volunteer at Canadian Parents for French. Moreover, on Sundays, I go to a local church to teach Children’s Liturgy. I am a library monitor at school, and a flute player in the school Concert Band. I am also in the Art Committee, and the Book Club at school. I am a well-rounded individual and I always strive for excellence. My ultimate goal is to become a scientific researcher. |

Characterization of Immunoglobulins in Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia(AIHA)

Flow cytometry was used to determine which autoantibodies were responsible for mediating AIHA. It is hypothesized that autoantibody subytpes IgG and IgM bind to the surface of red blood cells. Results showed that IgG, IgG2 and IgM autoantibodies do play a role in mediating Canine AIHA. |
