| My name is Ria Van der Linden and I am from Guysborough, Nova Scotia. I am in grade 12 and am very involved with my school and community. I play Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball and Badminton. In school I am the Chair of the Gay Straight Alliance, Co-Chair of the Green Team, Chair of the SMARTRISK program and involved with our Youth Health Center. I also play in my school band. Outside of school I am an active member in the 4-H program and am involved with committees that aid our community as well. I plan on entering a University in Nova Scotia, either Dalhousie University or Saint Mary's University for the Engineering Program. This is my fourth time to National Science Fair, I hope to have as much fun this time as I have in the past. |

My hypothesis was that the greater the ectoparasite loads the fewer hatchlings that would survive to fledge. My results did not support my hypothesis. There is evidence that survival to fledge may have more to do with the adaptability of Tree Swallows. |
