Biography
I am a Grade 11 student at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in St. Catharines, Ontario. I am a recipient of the Student of Excellence Award in Elementary school. I am currently involved in many curricular and extra-curricular activities including the string ensemble, Music Council, School orchestra, Peer tutoring activities and section editor of the school yearbook. I am also in charge of the school’s 50th Anniversary aerial photography. I am a member of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee of St. Catharines. Furthermore, I regularly volunteer at a local elderly home through the Alzheimer’s Society. I was enrolled in the Kumon Math program. In 2001, I was placed 10th in North America for Math among students at the same level. I have successfully participated in the annual math contests held by the University of Waterloo, the annual brain bee contests held by McMaster University and the annual Niagara Regional Science Fair for the last three years. I was a bronze medallist at the National science fair in Ottawa last year. My present research interest is studying the effects of anti-oxidants in plant growth. This is an ongoing research for the last two years in association with the University of Guelph.

School:Sir Winston Churchill
Abstract:Anti-oxidants are known to boost human health. The role of anti-oxidants in plants itself is not well understood. Are anti-oxidants beneficial for plants? This was studied with nine plant species, ornamentals and vegetables, with a measured anti-oxidant supplement in greenhouse conditions. Anti-oxidants increased plant growth, rooting, biomass, and stabilized its redox reactions implicating that it may augment fertilizer use efficiency, thus reducing fertilizer leach.
