Biography
I am a 15-year-old girl in grade 10 at Bishop Allen Academy, born, raised and currently living in Toronto. I speak both French and English with complete fluency, although my first language is French. I enjoy training Karate, which I have been doing since the age of three and am a part of the Cadets Canada program, currently holding the rank of Master Corporal. I like to read, run, swim, bike, canoe, hike, play music (Trombone and Flute! <3), go camping, learn, discover and travel! I got inspired to create my project when I watched a program on the lack of water in most third-world countries, then got up the next day and went to school on my bicycle. As I mulled over the program on my way there, the idea just came to me! I would like to improve my project and see the improved version used in real life, to help improve the lives of people. My advice for others? Go for it! Success is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, so get sweating! Pour hardwork, discipline and care into your project and you will soon reap the rewards! Above all, be passionate about what you are doing!

Abstract:In most third world countries, people are forced to walk several miles everyday to a water source to collect water for drinking, cleaning and cooking that is, most times, contaminated. By combining the pedal power of a bicycle, a peristaltic pump and two filters made of readily available materials, the Véleau offers an eco-friendly and effective way of collecting and cleaning water for everyday uses.
