Joshua - My name is Joshua hill, and i am second oldest of six siblings. I enjoy school, although my first memory of school was not pleasant. When I was young I was put into a learning disability program because of my speech impediment. My teachers did not recognize that I was capable of understanding the materials. I just needed a chance to express my speech. My interest in the sciences began at an early age when I took first place in my grade five science fair. I started to have the courage to trust my knowledge of the world. My passion for the sciences grew when I discovered psychology. I enjoy seeking answers to human behavior. When I found out I could use psychology in the science fair I was excited. The inspiration for my project came from a psychology class I was taking in school. My advice to others starting a project is to not be afraid to think outside the box. My plan for future research is to observe student behavior at other schools, gain a deeper understanding, and go beyond my own community.
Jewel - My name is Jewel Heathen, I am 16 years old. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. We all live on the Onion Lake First Nation. I attend Eagleview Comprehensive High School, and I’m in graded 10. Our school is proud of us because we are the first students to attend the National Science Fair. I enjoy spending time with friends. We like to create beaded jewelry. My friends are excited for me to be representing our community. I became interested in Science when I decided to become a nurse. I realized that I need to have good grades in Science and Math. By participating in our school fair, I wanted to develop my skills as a scientist. My science partner had the idea for this topic and I got inspired once I started doing research. I encourage other students to have fun by choosing a project they enjoy. If you enjoy what you are doing, the experience of the Science fair will be a fun one. My future goal for this research is to use it in my nursing Career. On a personal note, I plan to research in more detail, Canadian University requirements to become a registered nurse.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate why students behave one way with regular teachers and behave differently to substitute teachers. Most perceive that having a substitute is like having a "cake day". What happens when students are expected to learn from a substitute teacher? We looked at the substitutes', the students', and the teachers' points of view on the effectiveness of substitute teaching and their expectations.
