Cameron - Hello my name is Cameron Miller. I live in the town of Quispamsis, New Brunswick and attend Quispamsis Middle School. I play basketball, golf, soccer and the trombone in my school band. We are a family of 6, and no you are not seeing "double" my science fair partner is my twin brother Bryce. I am very excited because this is my first national science fair! I am eager to see the other projects and hope to learn many things from this great experience. Inspiration for my science fair came while listening to my parents complain about the rising price of gasoline. I remember thinking wouldn't it be great if we could have another source of energy to fuel our vehicles, something readily available and more affordable. Further investigation would lead to mixing manure and other combinations of biomas including paper products, nut shells, decomposing plants and food scraps. My advice to others conducting science fair projects is to find a passion and push the limits of discovery.
Bryce - Greetings, my name is Bryce Miller, and I live in the small town of Quispamsis, New Brunswick. I am a grade 8 student and currently attending Quispamsis Middle School "the best school in the country." As a cougar, I am involved in the QMS concert band, varsity basketball, soccer, golf, and track and field. I am particularly proud of being a member of the Triple "C" club, as we are currently raising money to build a school in Haiti. I have always been the type of person who thinks outside the box. As I passed a local farm, I noticed cow manure near the side of the road and thought, “wouldn’t it be useful if cow manure could be turned into a source of energy.” Viola, a science experiment was born! To further this experiment, I would test different types of manure (pig, chicken, horse) as each may generate different quantities of biogas. My advice to budding, young scientists would be if you have a question and can’t find the answer, conduct a test.

Abstract:The purpose of our scientific experiment was to determine, which biomass mixture would produce the most amount of biogas. We used three mixtures; manure, manure and banana, and manure and vegetable peelings. Taking 10 days to conduct, we concluded that manure and vegetable peelings was the quickest to inflate, while manure and banana produced the greatest amount of methane.
