I was born in Timmins, an Ontario city seven hundred kilometres north of Toronto. I am a grade eight honour student at R. L. Beattie Public School. This is my third year participating in the Science Fair. In 2007, I was on the winning team at the Timmins Science Olympics as well as at the Timmins Regional Robotics Competition. I like music and am completing my 7th grade of violin. I play violin in a quartet and orchestra and trumpet in the school band. When I am not practicing violin, I enjoy mountain biking, kayaking and ice hockey. I also participate in other sports such as cross-country skiing, soccer and downhill skiing. I have been part of the No. 10 Timmins Kiwanis Royal Air Cadets Squadron to learn how to fly planes. I am interested in mechanical science and aeronautical science. Someday I hope to make the world a better place by making one of my innovations become reality. |

Division: | Physical & Mathematical Sciences | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Sudbury | City: | Sudbury , ON | School: | Lo-Ellen Park S.S. | Abstract: | This project uses the science of photosynthesis to make a filter that will remove carbon dioxide from fossil fuel emissions. The third phase of the project was developed based on results of previous investigations to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide. A unique experimental design was used to investigate the effects of engine exhaust on algae life cycles and carbon dioxide concentrations in exhaust. |
