My name is Julia Cameron and I am a grade 8 student from Calgary, Alberta. I received a gold medal for my project, entitled Vivaldi Helped me Get an A in Math, as well as the 2011 Devon Canada Top Junior Award. Outside of school, I enjoy ballet, piano, reading, golfing, skiing, swimming and art. Painting (both acrylic and watercolour), sculpting, pottery, drawing, jewelry making, and wire sculpture are a few of my favorite mediums. I am currently working on my bronze-medallion swimming medal in order to become a swimming teacher, and, eventually, a lifeguard. I also volunteer at a recreation center in my city. Recently, I competed in the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and won 2nd place in my piano division. As one of the founders of Leading Ladies, a girls leadership group at my school, I plan activities to bring girls together. With a school population that is 2/3 boys and only 1/3 girls, we feel it is important to empower women to make a difference in today’s society. Looking ahead, I would like to pursue a career that combines my love of math, science and art. Possible options include architecture, product design, or graphic design. |

Over a period of four days, 95 students completed multiplication math tests while listening to these three different types of music, plus no music. Results indicated that listening to music did affect test scores. |
