Biography
Alexandra Gaglione, a student at St. Robert CHS, has a strong passion for science, and has maintained a high academic average throughout her grade nine year. At school, she is an active member to the junior school band, cross country running club, french club, and debate and model United Nations club. This is her second attendance to the Canada Wide Science Fair. Interests of hers include outdoor activities such as canoeing, hiking, and camping in Algonquin Park. Her hobbies include swimming, running, skating, downhill skiing, and cross country skate skiing. She is currently working on her lifeguard and swim instructor qualifications. She aspires to work in the field of science, and hopes to become a doctor or medical specialist. Alexandra is a well rounded student and shows interest in scientific projects as well as extracurricular activities.

A Portable Solar Water Purification System

Abstract:The common method of solar water purification, SODIS, was compared to an innovative water purification system on the ability to eliminate bacteria, and produce safe drinking water using solar energy. Various models of water purification systems were designed and tested for their ability to eliminate common types of bacteria known to cause illness in parts of the world which lack purified water.
