| My name is Gabriella Piccininni and I am honoured to be representing my school - Bayview Glen in Toronto - and my Grade 8 classmates at this year's Canada Wide Science Fair. My interests include music, reading, art, travel and sports (both watching and playing them!) I have volunteered at summer camp as a junior counsellor and have worked on the school yearbook and "reading buddy" programs. I enjoy skiing, tennis, volleyball, soccer and hockey and have participated at a competitive level in most of these sports. I have also been fortunate enough to have been able to attend a number of Olympic Games and World Championships. I admire the dedication to excellence that these athletes exhibit and strive to include these traits in my academic and athletic pursuits. I also appreciate the strong relationship between sport and science and hope to use my future education to enhance and improve the performances of our elite Canadian athletes. I plan to continue my enjoyment of science by studying Medicine at University. |

Enamel ErosionThe Erosive Effect of Various Beverages on Human Teeth

The purpose of this study was to illustrate this effect using real-life examples. Eighteen human teeth were exposed to six common beverages of different acidities for four or eight weeks. The difference in their pre- and post-exposure weights was used to determine tooth structure loss. Both exposure time and beverage acidity influenced final results. |
