Biographie
My name is Daisy Liu and I am 15 years old. I was born in China and immigrated to Canada with my family when I was 5. My interests include dance, music and also enjoy doing volunteer work in the community and through my school, Fort Richmond Collegiate, as well. I fully intend on attending university after high school which is why academics are high on my priority list but I make it a personal goal of mine to keep my life balanced. However important I believe school is, family and friends come first. I have participated in MSSS for three consecutive years and now have slowly worked my way up from a bronze medal to where I am now. My hopes on a future career involves science and medicine and that is why my experiences with MSSS and CWSF will be so invaluble and rewarding.

Evaluation of Snow Fungus Polysaccharides on Benzo[a]pyrene-induced DNA Damage
Défi:Santé
Catégorie:Intermédiaire
Région:Manitoba Schools Science Symposium
Ville:Winnipeg, MB
École:Fort Richmond Collegiate
Sommaire:Snow fungus has numerous health benefits including its polysaccharides possessing free radical scavenging ability. Protective effects of these polysaccharides are evaluated on Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts exposed to carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene. An alkaline and in-vitro digestion extracted polysaccharides. DNA damage was measured using single-cell electrophoresis comet assay after exposure of various treatments. Results indicated a trend showing snow fungus could protect against DNA damage.
