| Mackenzie Finch is an active enthusiastic individual that attends Merritt Secondary school in the French Immersion Program in the eleventh grade. She participates in various forms of dance (Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary and Jazz) as well volunteers teaching dance. Mackenzie also participates in her schools student council, is a member of the Merritt Volleyball Association, is a member of the Links Leadership Group, and the Asset Development Association. For the past two years she has been awarded with the top Timekeeper for the Merritt Hockey Association. At her Regional Science Fair she was awarded with the TRU Top Science Award, BCIC Young Innovator Scholarship, BC Nature Award, and the Best Environmental Science Award which has enabled her to attend her fifth Canada Wide Science Fair. Mackenzie hopes to pursue a career in Marine Mammal Biology or Zoology, with a Minor in Environmental Sciences. Mackenzie was inspired by a Conference on Women in Engineering which peaked her curiosity about waste water systems and the environmental impacts. This years project is a continuation from last years project. |

Drinking Water: An Environmental Filtration System Part 2
| Challenge: | Environment | | Category: | Senior | | Region: | Cariboo Mainline | | City: | Merritt, BC | | School: | Merritt Secondary | | Abstract: | This project created six wastewater systems that contained the filtration, sand cleaning, cloth filter, and aeration of a traditional treatment system with the plants, zooplankton and snails from a solar aquatic treatment system to produce clean water. Every four days polluted water flowed through the systems which were assessed for twelve water quality tests. The experimental results did not support the hypothesis for household consumption. |
