Biography
My name is Jack White and this is my first Canada Wide Science Fair. I am very excited to be here. I enjoy science, history and hamsters. I decided to do this project because I live very close to the St. John river and each year, the spring freshet affects my neighbourhood. This provided some interesting data that I was able to use to look at whether the local climate has changed over the past 100 years. To further my project, I may look at more stream gauges to get a wider variety of information. I may also expand my study to see if there has been a change in the height of the freshet, in addition to the timing of it. One piece of advice I'd give for other students thinking about doing a project is that you should find something that is interesting to you, and that you have some knowledge about.

Abstract:My projects is a study of the timing of the spring freshet on the St. John River. Each year, the freshet is caused by the melting of snow and ice. Taking data from 3 recording stations, I was able to determine that on average the spring freshet is getting earlier each year. This may be an indication of climate change.
