Biography
My name is Brittany Vandenberg and I am 12 years old in Grade 7 at Joan of Arc Academy in Ottawa. My three favourite subjects in school are math, science, and gym. I especially like biology because I love animals. When I grow up, I would like to be a veterinarian. I also play many sports like soccer, basketball, badminton and swimming, however my favorite sport is soccer. I currently play for the U12 Ottawa Fury and we play all over Ontario, Quebec and even in the United States (Boston and Philadelphia). The last two years I tied for first place in my school’s science fair. This year I won first place in Life Sciences in the Ottawa Regional Science Fair and I am really excited to go to the Canada Wide Science Fair in Peterborough, Ontario.

Abstract:This project determines whether people born in earlier months of the year have an advantage over people born in later months of the year in school, sports and other activities. The relative age effect was observed to exist in all four organizations studied, and especially strong in competitive soccer. Means to reduce the relative age effect are discussed to enhance the performance of elite teams.
