Abstract:Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) causes eye damage. This experiment investigates the UVR absorption of different lens materials and coatings for sunglasses. It also compares tinted versus clear, and mirrored versus non-mirrored sunglasses. Polycarbonate lenses were most absorbent. Tinted sunglasses absorbed more than clear. Mirrored sunglasses absorbed as much UVR as non-mirrored.
