Biographie
Hi, my name is Kirsten Ernst. I am extremely excited to be attending my 2nd consecutive science fair!! It will be great to meet new people and reconnect with dear friends from the past. I am a grade 9 student at Bayview Community School, in Mahone Bay, who has had a wonderful and successful year. In mid December, as part of Social Justice, I organized an “Anti violence Against Women and Children Day” at my school to raise awareness. As a result of this, our group received a resolution from our local MLA which was read at the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly, and was an honor. I have performed in numerous Jazz and Concert festivals with flute and trumpet; participated in mental math competitions {2nd place}, and have been an active peer-mediator. I recently took part in a CBC radio interview regarding my project. Some of my hobbies include: reading, crafts, outdoor activities, school, music and science. Swimming is a passion of mine, which I’ve done since the age of 6. By becoming a French or math teacher, as a future career, I hope to inspire others, like others have inspired me!! This experience is truly an honour!!

Noises Beware; My Decibel Meter is Listening
Défi:Santé
Catégorie:Intermédiaire
Région:South Shore
Ville:Blockhouse, NS
École:Bayview Community School
Sommaire:Noise is everywhere, including classrooms. I investigated noises in the classroom, its effects, and looked at classroom floor-plan designs. I recorded noise levels in classrooms, using a dBA meter. Then using memory tests, I looked at effects on students when more noise was generated; including learning and performance. From there I created an ideal classroom floor-plan which could be used, further benefiting students and teachers.
