Biographies
Heli - My name is Heli Patel and I am a grade 11 student at Westwood Community High School. I look forward to new experiences and ideas. I have actively participated in Science Fairs and math competitions since a young age and thoroughly enjoy both courses. Throughout my school years, I have put in a large effort maintaining a healthy average. I also participate in a variety of groups, and volunteer activities. In the past, I volunteered as an Environmentor, a program designed by the Municipality of Wood Buffalo where high school students educate children about the importance of the environment. I am also a tutor for improving the written and verbal English skills of children that are new to Canada. My hobbies include reading, drawing and painting. The inspiration for this project came from an average day at school. We noticed that although students often dress in informal clothing such as sweat pants, and t-shirts, the teachers and other figures of authority wear formal clothing. Here, we wondered if there was a connection between formal clothing and the quality of work of students.
Ashlesha - A typical teenager, absorbed into the world of high school, but with many stories to share. Hello! My name is Ashlesha and I am a grade 11 student from Fort McMurray, Alberta. Yes, that’s right, home of the oil sands. I love to watch movies, shop, and try new things. I am very adventurous and I love travelling. Going on long walks and riding my bike are my favourite things to do in the summer. I live in a family of 4 with my parents and a ten year old brother. I have resided in three different countries so far and hope to be able to live in many more. I love experiencing new cultures, learning new languages and trying different foods. I am fluent in three languages – English, Hindi, and Marathi as well have a basic knowledge of Spanish and Arabic. My goals for the future are to pursue a career in pediatrics and to be involved in the health care industry. I work hard in school to be able to achieve my dreams and aspirations.
