Biography
Stephenson Hillock is presently in Grade Seven at Mountain View Elementary School in Collingwood, Ontario. During the summer, he loves to mountain bike with the Collingwood Cycling Club and to compete in races. He has been sailing with the Collingwood Sailing School for the last three years, currently working on his CanSail 3 certificate. In the winter, Stephenson can be found alpine ski racing at Craigleith Ski Club and his favourite event is slalom. For the past four years, he has been active with biathlon at Highlands Nordic. Next year he will be an assistant coach with the Biathlon Bears program. Stephenson’s inspiration for his science fair project, “Undivided Attention”, was from a family friend, Mike Walker. Mike is very connected with electronics related to his occupation. Sometimes he wondered if Mike was listening to him when he was talking and Mike was texting, replying to e-mails or surfing the net. Advice for future scientists would be to do research in a field that interests them, with which they have a personal connection, and to start their projects well ahead of time. It is very useful to have a math and science teacher review the work.
