Biography
I am a high honours grade 8, French immersion student at Quispamsis Middle School. My interests are playing hockey, skiing, scootering, and bicycling. I am a singer who competes in adjudicated music festivals, and I am learning to play guitar. I have appeared on stage with the Saint John Theatre Company's Wizard of Oz, a TV commercial for the NB Innovation Fund, and on TV as the young John Peters Humphrey in a CBC biographical documentary. I enjoy science and math at school and I would like to become an engineer. My project idea came about from seeing drivers texting at stop lights, but not driving when the light turned green. In the future, I'd like to use cameras to detect cars that are delayed, perhaps using software like OpenCV. My advice to other students doing a science project would be to choose a topic that you are interested in. You might be surprised what you discover.

Abstract:My project is an observational study of drivers and vehicles at busy, traffic-light-controlled intersections. In particular, I evaluated how many vehicles were delayed from leaving an intersection when the light turned green, and how many drivers were observed to be distracted while driving. Using contingency tables and conditional distributions I found a relationship between delayed vehicle rates and distracted driver rates.
