| Areez is a Grade 7 student attending Tomken Road Middle School's SciTech program. Areez is an avid reader and has a passion for science, math, chess, track and music. He is an inquiring and collaborative individual, and is always ready for a challenge. Areez is a Canadian Spelling Bee Winner and has won multiple public speaking and math competitions. Areez's inspiration for this project comes from a family trip to East Africa. He saw houses made using mud and held together by branches cut from trees. The leaves were used to build a thatch roof. There were no windows. The homes were dark throughout the day and night since there is no electricity in the rural areas. Areez thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if people had free light during the daytime?" Areez's plans for further investigation include considering the water quality in developing countries by conducting another experiment, this time changing the viscosity of water to determine its effect on the amount of light entering a box. Areez would advise students to brainstorm and start thinking about project ideas early on in the school year, and plan out their projects including allocating time for experiment, observation, results and report writing. |

E3 Light – Environmentally Efficient Energy
