Biography
My name is Aunum Abid and I am a 9th grade student from Aden Bowman Collegiate Institute in Saskatoon, SK. I have a passion for STEM education and participate in several science fairs, camps and conferences that have helped me develop as a person. Aside from my interest in science, I enjoy being outdoors, participating in a variety of sports, playing musical instruments and volunteering around my community. I also regularly keep active in school events while training for competitive swimming and keeping up with playing piano for personal interests. I have a keen interest in specifically the health sciences and eventually plan to pursue a career related to science and innovation in the future. For the time being, I am enjoying continued research in the field of regenerative medicine. My advise to other students is find whatever it is you are passionate about, then fully immerse yourself. For all the young scientists out there, I encourage you to keep an open mind and always approach everything with a positive attitude.

Fishing for New Genes to Engineer Personalized Teeth
Challenge:Health
Category:Intermediate
Region:Saskatoon
City:Saskatoon, SK
School:Aden Bowman Collegiate
Abstract:The objective of this project was to identify whether and where newly discovered tooth specific genes are expressed within embryonic gar teeth, providing insight on how vital they are in tooth development. This has potential to directly benefit human oral health by giving tissue engineers the information required to grow a tooth in vitro so that patients can replace their own diseased or damaged teeth.
