| Ashley MacLean is a grade 12 student from Westisle High School, Prince Edward Island. Ashley is bilingual and enjoys meeting new people and travelling. This year she was captain of her school’s Envirothon team. Ashley is enrolled in the Advanced Placement programs in both biology and chemistry. This year is her second year of participating in her school’s annual Relay for Life event to raise money for cancer research. Ashley’s school has raised the highest amount of funds, than any other high school in the country, for the last three consecutive years for this cause. At the Province-Wide Science Fair on PEI, Ashley was honoured with several awards including, Nautilus Biosciences Discovery Award, Nature’s Crops Industrial Agriculture Award, Excellence in Agri-Science Award and more for her work with sweet potatoes. Ashley will be continuing her education while attending the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She is a Greystone Scholar and will study sciences. |

Effects Of Fertilizers On PEI Sweet Potatoes

This could be a great crop for PEI’s economy; sweet potatoes are of higher economic value than white potatoes, they are very healthy and requiring fewer pesticides. The results show that the plants receiving no fertilizer had better yields than those with fertilizers. |
