| Charanpreet - My name is Charanpreet Kaur Mahal. I am currently a Gr.9 student at Dasmesh Punjabi School, Abbotsford, B.C. I have been the top student achieving student of the year awards and I have been getting great grades throughout my school life. I was born in the beautiful city of Abbotsford. Some of my interests are reading and travelling. These both things allow me to explore whole new dimensions. In school one of my favorite subject to study is science. This subject fascinates me and I love learning about the human body. My passion for the study of science has lead me to conduct a science club with my partner Gurmeen, in which we help young kids learn and experiment ,the wonders of Science. Besides this Gurmeen and I enjoy volunteering at local events. We have been volunteering at Canada Day Parade for 3 years now. Since I love to surround myself with science, in future my plan is to study biology and become a biologist or a doctor. | | Gurmeen Kaur - My name is Gurmeen Kaur Banipal. I’m in Grade 9 at Dasmesh Punjabi School in the city of Abbotsford, British Columbia.I've been interested in science ever since I attempted to jump to the moon from my trampoline at the age of 4. Other than science, I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, debating, and playing sports. I am currently on my school’s volleyball team, and I also play soccer during the summer. I love music. I am trained to play the Harmonium and Tabla, two Indian classical instruments. At school, I’m involved in the Yearbook team as a photographer and a sales representative. During lunch times, I co-operate the Vector Science Club where we support young students to learn and experiment with science. During my free time, I like to volunteer at local events to help make the community a better place. Throughout my 9 years of school, I've won many “Student of the Year” awards, and have achieved numerous “Principle’s Honour Roll” awards. In the future, I look forward to a career in science, and promoting scientific studies. This is my second year at CWSF, and I’m excited to be a part of CWSF 2012 in the city of Charlottetown! |

Revealing the Invisible World of Radon

Radon decays quickly, giving off tiny radioactive particles. When inhaled, these radioactive particles dissolve in the blood and circulate through the body. Long-term exposure to radon is proven to lead to numerous amount of diseases. Initially, we made radon detector to analyze radon's existence. Later, we also developed a radon collector, which collects radon lessening its affect. |
