Biography
My name is Katie van der Sloot, currently I am a grade 10 student at McCoy High School in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I am passionate about anything Fine Arts, partly because I’ve grown up with music all my life! Along with all my family, (I have 7 people in my family, plus Spanky, my dog.) I’ve played an instrument since a young age. I love music, and am currently studying under the brilliant instruction of Shauna Kohles-Walters. Each year I am involved in the Rotary Music Festival, which brings together hundreds of talented musicians. I am also a competitive swimmer, and have been for many years. Some personal highlights of my swimming career in AMAC have included trips to Kamloops B.C, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Provincials, and Summer Games. Part of what makes swimming such a joy is all the tremendous friends I have in the club! I enjoy spending my free time with friends and family, traveling, boating, and shopping! Finally, I obviously love science, and have a blast on my annual science fair projects with my best friend and partner Rachel! And after the last two exciting cwsf trips, I would love to pursue a career as a pediatrician!

Climate Change: Fact or Fiction?
Division:Health Sciences
Category:Intermediate
Region:Kiwanis Southeast Alberta
City:Medicine Hat, AB
School:McCoy High School
Abstract:Our project focuses on climate change over decade periods. We analyzed statistics from Environment Canada for the temperature and precipitation in these regions. We produced graphs that reflect changing climate trends showing an increase in warming. Using data and research we want to help people understand that in spite of the extreme weather occurring around the world, global warming and climate change are real.
