Biographies
Hadley - My name is Hadley Cornelious and I am currently attending grade seven at Errol Village Public School. I enjoy the subjects math, science, art, and drama. Our class is putting together the Shakespearean play, “Much Ado About Nothing,” while modernizing it. I participate in many school sports including soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Outside of school I play hockey and soccer. I have also participated in math competitions, which can make me nervous, but I find fun. I play the piano at a grade five level, which is actually harder than it sounds. I have been included in the music festival in my area for many years, since I have been playing since grade one. On my free time I love to read and play with my bulldogs, which my family adores. In the winter, my family and I like to take vacations to go skiing and snowboarding. Although I have not mastered the snowboard yet, it is fun when we visit smaller hills. This past March, we visited Fernie, BC to go skiing, and it was amazing. This is my first time attending the Canada Wide Science Fair, and I am very honoured to have opportunity to be there.
Sarah - My name is Sarah, and I am a grade 7 student at Errol Village Public School in Camlachie, Ontario. I play on many school sports teams, and enjoy soccer, hockey, cross country, track and field, swimming, and skiing. My favourite place to ski is Lake Louise, Alberta, in the magnificent Rocky Mountains. I am an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. I love playing the piano, and annually compete in the Lambton County Music Festival. I also enjoy reading, and my favourite books include the Harry Potter series and the Hunger Games series. I eagerly await the movie “Catching Fire”! I have a soft spot for Chinchillas, and I am lucky enough to own two of them - Caramelo and Navidad. This is my first CWSF and my first science fair project ever! I am very grateful to my teacher for her amazing science classroom, hosting the school science fair, and encouraging Hadley and I to attend the Lambton County Science Fair. She is extremely excited for Hadley and I to continue on to the CWSF, as am I. I can’t wait to travel to P.E.I!

Picky Plants and Their pH Preferences
Challenge:Environment
Category:Junior
Region:Lambton County
City:Camlachie, ON
School:Errol Village E.S.
Abstract:The main contributors to acid rain are sulfuric and nitric acid. This experiment studied the effects of these acids at various pH levels on germinating seeds. Dicotyledonous garden vegetables seeds were tested. It was hypothesized that seeds exposed to acids would have fewer seeds germinate and an increased germination rate. Observations supported one hypothesis component, as exposure to acid solutions resulted in fewer seeds germinating.
