Biographie
My name is Brenna Howatt and I’m 14 years old. Some of my hobbies include hockey, soccer and reading. At school I enjoy gym, science, math and band, as well as a few extra-curricular activities. Besides that, I have participated in school and community based theatre, sports, music, Island-based radio, TV and print commercials for Island companies and festivals, and I have won the Junior Provincial Speaking Competition in 4-H. As for my future career, I am interested in Forensic Anthropology. The inspiration for my project came from my concern about the level of distraction that texting creates in today’s society. Teens (and older) seem to be unable to put their phones down, whether it‘s while they drive, walk, or talk. That made me curious as to how their reaction time would be affected, as it would influence their safety. The advice that I would give to students who are considering doing a project is this: pursue what you’re interested in. Do a project on something that you like, and you can’t go wrong!

Sommaire:Which distraction would significantly affect your reaction time; listening to music, responding to questions, or texting? My project investigated the effects of different distractions on the reaction time of junior high and high school students. Your safety matters – for a quick reaction time while walking across the street or driving down the road, try putting your phone down and sending that text later!
