Biographies
Tyler - My name is Tyler Hickling I live in Fernie. I am in the grade 8 class at the Fernie academy. The things I like to do in my spare time are video games mostly FPS (first person shooters), I also really like throwing knives. I am not a big fan of sports but I do play soccer and basket ball. I also was in tae kwon-do for 4 years. I like cooking but I hate reading an writing although I have been told that I am a very good writer.
Benjamin - My name is Ben Gilmet and I am an 13 year old 8th grader from the Fernie Academy, an independent school in the middle of Fernie's historical downtown. My favorite sports are volley ball, judo, and soccer. Since I live in the mountain town of Fernie, British Columbia, I also love hiking, biking and doing water sports at Lake Koocanusa in the summer, and skiing in the winter. I have one sister named Emma, my mother's name is Colette, my father's name is Scott, and we have a Dog named Stuie. In the future, I intend to study either geology or biology at university. The inspiration for our project was because my partner and I are both big pancake fans, and find that real maple syrup is a lot better than imitation maple syrup. We noted that maple syrup is very expensive and there is no available fertilizers for it so we decided to do further research on this topic.

Magic Maple Manipulation
Challenge:Environment
Category:Junior
Region:East Kootenay
City:Fernie, BC
School:The Fernie Academy
Abstract:We can increase the sugar concentration in maple tree sap by controlling the level of certain macro and micro nutrients the tree utilized the most in sap production. Adjusting the physical location of the tree to the most suitable for growth. By controlling these variables the sugar concentration increase would significantly affect maple sugar production.
