Biography
I was watching a TV show and it mentioned a Stirling engine, I was intrigued that it was described as one of the most efficient engines in the world. I basically have been researching it ever since (2-3 years ago). Having always had an interest in engines in general and a great memory for retaining information about them, this was an ideal science fair project. In the future I hope to find a way to make the Stirling engine (origin 1700's) more practical in the modern world. To other students, pick something that you have previous knowledge on and that you REALLY like! When working on something that you have to physically build, start immediately, so that you have time to prefect and tinker.

Abstract:The Stirling engine is an interesting machine which operates through the expansion and contraction properties of air. These types of engines are known for their efficiency as they require small amounts of energy to work. I wanted to study the different forms of the Stirling engine with the hopes of creating a viable prototype. A Stirling engine's ability to pump fluids has many interesting applications.
