Biography
I am Teresa Deng, a grade 11 student from Watson school. I was born and raised in China, where I lived until the fall of 2014. I moved to Canada and settled in Watson, Saskatchewan. My idea came when I was on Christmas holidays in China, excited to return to school and get researching the project.

Algae to Biofuel
Challenge:Energy
Category:Senior
Region:Carlton Trail
City:Watson, SK
School:Watson High School
Abstract:Concerns over the country’s energy dependence on nonrenewable fossil fuels is increasing with elevated scarcity and negative environmental impacts. Algae is an abundant, fast-growing, oil-rich, resilient organism that can prosper in many extreme circumstances. I hypothesized that I could grow and harvest algae in a lab, then use a chemical extraction to obtain the natural lipid oils which could then be refined into fuel.
