The Performance of Structures During Earthquakes
Challenge:Resources
Category:Intermediate
Region:Bay Area
City:Ancaster, ON
School:Ancaster H.S.
Abstract:This project examined the qualities that make some brick buildings more earthquake resistant than others. Small-scale models of brick walls were tested with varying amounts of reinforcement and amplitudes of shaking. The results proved that a small amount of reinforcement goes a long way when trying to prevent earthquake damage and that small reinforced brick building walls perform better than taller walls.
