Biography
My name is Lauren Shears, I am 15 years old from Oxford, NS. I am in 9th grade at Oxford Regional Education Centre. This is my 6th year as a part of the Double D 4H club. Some projects I am involved in are goat, beef, sewing, and crafts. I am also a part of my community’s preforming arts group and a fundraising group for my 2020 trip to Europe. I would like to pursue a career in the field of science however I am not sure exactly what I would like to do. My project focuses on using frozen wild blueberries as an environmentally friendly alternative fabric dye for denim. Being from Oxford, the wild blueberry capitol of the world, I thought it was only fitting to do a project using blueberries. If the dye is successful it could provide a new market for wild blueberries.

Abstract:My project, The Berry Best Dye, focuses on using frozen wild blueberries as a more environmentally friendly replacement dye for denim. To do this I used different methods to create fabric dyes out of frozen wild blueberries. Using blueberries as a dye could be another market for blueberries that are unable to be sold for many reasons.
