Biography
My name is Ian Coomes and I am a grade 8 student at Appleby College in Oakville Ontario. Because of my height, 6’8”, I particularly enjoy volleyball and basketball. My favourite subjects at school are science, math, English and French. I am presently taking Grade 9 math and French. I participate and excel in Math competitions. I was honoured to be an Ontario Legislative Page last year and I enjoyed working at Queen's Park and learning about the Ontario Government. I have many interests which include playing the drums, Model United Nations, War Hammer and volunteering for the Canadian Marfan Association. I am an avid reader and especially enjoy reading fantasy genre. I have been fortunate to travel to many countries such as India and Egypt and to learn about many cultures. Participating in Science Fairs has furthered my love of science and I would like to study the sciences at University and perhaps be a Pharmacologist.

Abstract:With the H1N1 flu scare the public was advised to sneeze into their sleeve to reduce viral and bacterial spread however this advice may not be wise. My project’s purpose was to determine if school blazers harbour more bacteria than shirts and if the less often clothes are washed the greater the bacterial growth. Blazers had approximately seven times the amount of bacteria than shirts.
