Allison - I am part of a team with my friend, Camryn. We originally thought we would research the human cell nucleus, but soon determined that our study should involve all parts of the human cell. This is our first year at the CWSF and we are very excited about being selected to attend. There is a lot of hard work involved in getting our project ready to show. I am in my 3rd year of participation in our local 4H Club, in the horsemanship discipline, having worked with Miniature Horses, Parelli traning and now Western classes. I have served as President and Vice President with the Club, and participated in Speech Making, Livestock Judging and fundraising. I previously trained in Highland dance and competed at 'The Gathering' in Edinburgh, Scotland - and won a Third in the Highland Fling. That was exciting! | Camryn - My name is Camryn Laroche. I am twelve years old and attend Trafalgar Middle School in Nelson, BC. I enjoy school and am a straight ‘A’ student. Outside of school I am a member of the Nelson Figure Skating club. I like to paint, listen to music, play badminton, jump on my trampoline, and spend time with my friends. I love playin with my dog Cleo, we are best pals. We got the idea to research the human cell through listening to my brother talk about what he was learning in science which was cell biology. Once accepted to the regional science fair we expanded our project to include abnormal cells, with a focus on cancer cells. My grandfather died of Lung Cancer and I wanted to understand how that happens. I don’t know if I am going to do more investigations on this project, it depends on what I decide I want to be when I’m older. Although I’m not sure of my future career, I know I want to attend a college or university. Advice I would offer to other students is to be open to others opinions and ideas, to stay focused and never give up! |
