Biographie
Hello, my name is John McCotter, a student at Holy Name of Mary School in St.Marys, Ontario. I am very excited to display my invention, The Water Shepherd, at the Canada Wide Science Fair. The Water Shepherd can go in a creek or river and charge an electric fence. My inspiration came from my animals, for whom I wanted to pasture in a moveable electric fence along a creek but couldn't due to the lack of power. You know what they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention”. I play hockey in the winter and golf in the summer and I enjoy running year round. I have a deep love of animals and nature which I believe is why I enjoy my farm so much. I have two sheep, two goats, a donkey, as well as a flock of chickens. In my post secondary education I wish to study medicine as well as enhance my scientific education. I have really enjoyed my entire science fair experience and I hope you enjoy my project.

Sommaire:I designed a device that can be placed in a creek or river and generate electricity. In order for this design to be made most effective, I tested what type of turbine was best suited for my uses. I tested three different turbines, a horizontally mounted turbine, a vertically mounted turbine, and a wind style turbine.
