Biographies
Stormy - My name is Stormy Howard and I am 14. I adore science and technology. I like to go to school to learn and have very good attendance records. I participate in school sports like volleyball, basketball and track and field. I volunteer for lots of things and have been asked to make speeches at school assemblies in the past. I have done gymnastics, competitive trampoline and cheer leading. I am very involved with my community through the Leo’s Club. I'm one of 5 children and have experience with disabled children. At the regional science fair my partner and I won for best in agricultural research. I enjoy gardening and I wanted to do some research to see how I could grow plants better. We discovered on a NASA website that beans grew better under red and blue lights. We decided to test this conclusion for ourselves. If you're thinking about competing in a science fair, start with a hobby or interest that you have and think about how this idea can be used to help improve the lives of people or the environment.
Bronwyn - My name is Bronwyn Fowler and I am a Grade 8 student at Seaway District High School in Eastern Ontario. I work at the local library one afternoon each week and I have participated in Scouts Canada programms all my life. I enjoy art. I especially enjoy playing the clarinet and painting. At the regional science fair my partner and I won for best in agricultural research. I enjoy gardening and I wanted to do some research to see how I could get my plants to grow better. We discovered on the NASA website research that said beans grew better under red and blue lights. We decided to test this conclusion for ourselves. Our High School is installing a green house and I hope to repeat this project with different types of plants. If you're thinking about competing in a science fair, start with a hobby or interest that you have and think about how this idea can be used to help improve the lives of people or the environment.

Abstract:For our project we decided to see what color of light a plant would grow best to. This could be useful if you were growing plants in a dark environment and needed to produce artificial light. NASA did a similar project like this so they could grow plants in space, we decided to test this theory by growing beans under certain lights and controlled conditions.
