Biographies
Hannah - My name is Hannah Belec and I am a grade 9 student at Glenmary School in Peace River, Alberta. As our project shows, my favorite activity in the community is to volunteer at the local SPCA. I often walk the dogs and spend time with them. Some of my other hobbies and interests include singing, playing guitar, ukulele and piano. I also play on the volleyball team at my school. A few of my notable experiences and achievements include getting chosen to go to We Day in Calgary, and I am an honor roll with distinction student (90% average or above). For my post secondary career, I plan to study to become a genetic counselor. Our inspiration for the project came from our love for dogs, the SPCA and the curiosity about what dogs are the best or most intelligent. Plans I have for future investigation would be to look deeper into dogs brains and what factors of it affect intelligence. Lastly, the advice I would give to students wanting to do a project would to pick a topic you love and work as hard as you can on it. Think of a project as an opportunity, not a burden.
Madilynn - I am Madilynn Brunham, a grade 9 student that goes to Glenmary Secondary School in Peace River, Alberta. I was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta and I have two homes with 3 siblings, three dogs and great parents. In my free time I enjoy volunteering at the SPCA, playing piano and hanging out with friends. During my summers I volunteer at Riverside Bible camp and share the gospel to kids 5-12 years old. This year I was on my school Jr. A basketball team and was also chosen to participate in WE Day. I'm an honor student and I enjoy math and gym. My post secondary aspirations are to go into the health field, I am currently thinking about Speech Pathology. My partner, Hannah and I chose our project because we love dogs and volunteering at the SPCA. If we were to elaborate on our project we would research further on a dogs brain/behavior and test a bigger sample size. For students wanting to do a science fair project, pick something you love to do and don't think of science fair as a challenge think of it more as an opportunity.

Sommaire:Our project is the called The Dog Intelligence Test. We used an intelligence test adapted from the book The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren, a professor of canine psychology. The test challenges a dogs instinctive, adaptive, working and obedience intelligence. With this, we tested 48 dogs and placed them into 4 mass classes to discover what size of dog is the most intelligent.
