Biography
My name is Adrain Howie, I'm 17 years old and I live in Halifax Nova Scotia. I'm in grade 11 at Citadel High. I have lived in Halifax most of my life except for grades 5 and 6, when I lived in Ottawa. My favorite sports are tennis and football. I play and coach tennis year round, and was on the provincial champion high school football team. I am active in my community and in my church. I also play the double bass in a string ensemble. I did the regional science fair for five years now, and this is the forth time going to nationals.

Abstract:The purpose of this project is to identify bioactive compounds from various species of arctic algae that can benefit human health. This project tested ten species of algae, for possible nutraceutical and pharmaceutical bioactives. Seven of the species showed potential, including samples with possible anticarcinogenic effects. This project should that bioactives from Arctic algae could be the basis for compounds that save millions of lives
