| Steven - A student at Marianopolis College. He enjoys taking pictures and browsing Reddit. He likes to spend the remaining time learning to code websites and program applications. Truly a citizen of the technological era, he is fascinated by new and upcoming tech. He wants to obtain a degree in computer science or software engineering to one day work at a major technology company in Silicon Valley such as Google. His project partner, Yu Chen Hou, and him came up with the idea for their Android application named "TakeABreak" while they were taking a leisurely stroll in downtown Montreal when suddenly nature struck. Frustrated by their inability to develop superpowers to detect nearby washrooms, they took matters into their own hands and programmed a smartphone app. In future, they hope to apply their orientation tool to other practical applications including disaster relief and city maintenance. If there was one piece of advice he would want to give to those considering a project, he would tell them to pursue a genuine interest and stubbornly see it to the end because the worst thing that can happen is that they learn a ton of awesome things. | | Yu Chen - I am currently a CEGEP student at Marianopolis College interested in all things digital. I look forward to go into Software Engineering or Computer Science at the University of Waterloo next year, and hopefully get into the exciting field of technology startups at the same time. Outside of school, I am currently working on various Android applications, working with startups, and messing around with electronics. I also enjoy photography, geocaching and being outdoors. My project partner, Steven Kong, and I were inspired to create our project while strolling in Montreal. Desperate and unable to find a nearby bathroom, we thought someone should make an app and it might as well be us. In the future, we are thinking about extending our project into city planning and disaster relief, providing organizations with a powerful orientation tool. I would tell students to stop worrying about project ideas and just start building prototypes. You'll learn a lot while doing it and get a better idea of the project at the same time. |
