My name is Frannie Sobcov, and I am in grade 8 at Turnbull School in Ottawa, Canada. I am very passionate about science, and am so thrilled to be a part of this year’s CWSF. Apart from science, at school, my other favourite subjects are History and English. I am also a musician - not only do I listen to music, but play both the oboe and the guitar. Some of my other hobbies include dance, rowing, swimming/lifeguarding, badminton, rugby, volunteering, and photography. I am completely undecided as to what my career path will be, but I am interested in both environmental engineering and filmography. In terms of awards - I am the top student in my grade for three years running. I was awarded Bronze Regional Science Fair Committee Consumer Product award, and the Professional Engineers Ontario award. One of my most notable experiences would probably be last year, when I was an emcee for a charity assembly called Help Lesotho where I had the honour of introducing and meeting the King of Lesotho himself. From that event, I appeared on CBC Radio, CBC TV and Global Television. |

Défi: | Innovation | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Ottawa | Ville: | Ottawa, ON | École: | Turnbull School | Sommaire: | My project is a continuation of last year’s project, except I focused on stair railings, rather than the rise, run, and nosing. My goal was to discover the optimal height for a railing building code to decrease the number of falls, particularly for seniors. After testing people of all ages, I concluded that building code needs to be updated to a lower and smaller range. |
