Flies' Eyes and DNA
Division:Biotechnologie

Sommaire:This experiment examined whether differences in eye colour between wild and white-eyed Drosophila melanogaster occur due to DNA differences. Gel electrophoresis was used to study the DNA samples of the two types of Drosophila. It was found that white-eyed Drosophila have an insertion of DNA called Doc retrotransposon. This proved that one could differentiate between various organisms within a species by looking at their DNA.
