I am a student at Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute in Peterborough, Ontario. I have always been interested in paleontology and there is a classic collecting site of Ordovician Period macrofossils which I have visited in the past and the difference in rock strata inspired me to develop a science project. In the future, I may perform an investigation on bryozoan thin sections to identify genera or a comparison of Verulam macrofossils to macrofossils of the Cobourg Formation. My recommendation to science students would be to pursue their passions in future projects. My hopeful plans with regard to university would be to pursue a degree in zoology, evolutionary biology and ultimately paleontology. I also plan to further develop my prehistoric illustrative artwork. |
| Dylan Rowe Do Verulam Ordovician Fossils vary due to the composition and level of Strata?
Défi: | Environnement | Catégorie: | Intermédiaire | Région: | Peterborough | Ville: | Warsaw, ON | École: | Kenner C.V.I. | Sommaire: | A study was performed on carefully extracted samples of macroinvertebrates in two different types of Verulam Formation strata located in an abandoned quarry in Lakefield to determine if there was a difference in the phyla and genera of the macrofossils extracted in different strata. The data that was extracted indicated a change in fauna along with the changing composition of the strata. |
