| Rumana Rafiq is a 14 year old grade 9 student who goes to Truro Junior High School. Her favourite subjects are science and math. Outside of school, she plays tennis. She has represented Nova Scotia in four national tennis tournaments and has even competed in a few international tennis tournaments as well. Rumana was also chosen as the alternate for the under-18 Nova Scotia Canada Games tennis team in 2008 and is looking forward to the coming summer games in 2013. She also loves badminton and recently won second in her province in singles. Rumana is in the Integrated French Program in her school, and won the gold medal in the French Public Speaking Competition in her region this year. Rumana also loves to debate. This year in the provincial competition, her team came in first place. She was selected to be on the national team to represent Nova Scotia, but unfortunately, she had to say no to come to the CWSF! Rumana competed in the national science fair last year and had a lot of fun. This year she is looking forward to meeting new people and having a great time! |

DNA was extracted from liver tissue and its quality and quantity was evaluated. A Polymerase Chain Reaction was conducted to determine the length of the telomere per mouse. Results show that stress can shorten lifespan. |
