Biographies
Arianna - Arianna Skirzynska was born on November 7th 1997 and is currently attending All Saints Catholic High School at the grade 10 level. She has continually had a strong interest in writing and aspires to one day write an adult fiction novel. Throughout her childhood, Arianna participated in competitive alpine ski racing. She maintained a top ten standing within the Ottawa/Gatineau region, but decided at the end of the 2012 season she really loved performing experiments. Wishing to later pursue a career in biomedical engineering, Arianna desires to experience as much as possible in events related to this field. The topic of zombie cells was first brought up by a friend, however previously to this Arianna’s grade nine science teacher spoke of the craziness of this motion. Testing out and furthering the theories of other scientists is a great interest of Arianna. In the future, she really wants to focus on improving the environment by looking at possible replacements for fossil fuels. After conducting this experiment, Arianna has concluded that anything is possible, so shoot for the stars. Not everything will turn out as you expect and any idea is worth testing out.
Samantha - As Albert Einstein repeatedly said; "Imagination is more important than knowledge." I believe that having a passion for something and fearlessly taking action is how one succeeds. I strive to live by this day-to-day. Ever since I was young I have always had a passion for helping others (being apart of HOPE team, Leadership Camp, Save the Children, Peer Tutoring and volunteering), and have always loved biology which had developed into a passion for neuroscience. I believe that the way I can contribute to the goodness of the world is through my passions. I have chosen to take action after being educated on global issues (Specifically the increase in CO2 emissions) . After being inspired by research done in New Mexico, my partner and I have decided to put theories to the test and determine whether or not it can benefit the future. For future applicants, I would suggest living by the mantra: "Only passions, great passions can elevate the soul to great things"

Sommaire:The concept of "Zombie Cells; Fact or Fiction?" proposes the idea that cells can be coated in silica gel, killed through heat, and then have an increase in cell activity. Originally, this concept was tested using mammalian cells; however in this experiment algae cells were used to further explore the original hypothesis.
