Biographies
Eleonore - My partner–Vincent Girard– and I, attend Bishop Allen Academy and are part of the Ap and french immersion program. Being from a small all french elementary school, we never had the chance to participate in science fairs. However, we did place 4th in a Knex bridge building competition. I do some extracurricular activities such as cheerleading and swimming. I also participate every year in french public speaking competitions. In the future, I would like to pursue a career in forensic sciences. The inspiration for our project came when discussing the loss of features in limestone buildings due to acid degradation. For other aspiring science fair students, i recommend to use every opportunity to develop your scientific knowledge.
Vincent - My partner, Eleonore Day, and I, are in grade 9 and attend Bishop Allen academy. We are part of the french immersion program as well as the Advanced placement programs. Being from a small all french elementary school, we didn't get many opportunities to enhance our scientific knowledge through science fairs. However, we did place 4th in a bridge building competition. I play hockey and do competitive swimming. I wish to pursue a medical profession. My hobbies are spending time with friends outside. The inspiration for this project came from my partner, while discussing with her mother about degrading heritage building due to acid precipitation. My partner and i would like to follow up on our current science fair experiment and try to develop our own limestone protecting agent based on our results. For other aspiring science fair students, i would suggest to work hard and keep an open mind.

Sommaire:Six samples of limestone were coated with various household products. Acid solutions of a pH 4.0 was poured onto every stone for twenty eight days. The rocks were weighed and the amount of stone mass degradation was calculated for each sample. The limestone sample that deteriorated the least, (shoe protector covered limestone) was considered the most resistant to acid degradation.
