I am from Gjoa Haven, Nunavut in the Arctic Circle. I have done this project on tooth decay. The reason i choose this project is because i have seen many kids in my community with root on teeth and they don't look very good. i hope that my project will encourage parents to look after their kids teeth. While thinking of a project I thought about tooth decay because when I grow up i would like to be a dentist. I hope that my project will help me fulfill my dream of becoming a dentist. My home is in the Arctic. I like to go fishing, sliding, skating, play outside and hunting. I hope that you find my project interesting as I sure have had fun doing it. The teeth that were used in my project were from a caribou that my dad hunted and caught. My grandmother took all of the teeth from the caribou skull to help me with my project. My hope is to prevent tooth decay, this would save our community a lot of money. Maybe, if we save enough money Gjoa Haven could get a swimming pool for our Hamlet! Enjoy the interesting results! |

Young children are flown to southern hospitals for treatment. Caribou teeth were soaked in different drinks. Tang juice and Coke drinks turned teeth black. Vinegar damaged the teeth the most; teeth turned rubbery. All teeth lost weight over the 10 weeks. The results show that Nunavut needs to promote better dental health care. |
