Biography
My name is Shirothie Puwaneswaran, and I am a grade 9 student at Bayview Secondary. My project is an extension from my previous project "Who Do I Prefer?" where I stimulated global warming and ocean acidification to see how the viability of the coral was impacted. I was inspired to continue my research to further see how corals could be helped after being bleached. My project this year focuses on the recovery aspect of corals. I learned briefly about global warming and coral reefs during geography in grade 7. This inspired me and gave me the impetus to do a project related to how global warming affects coral reefs. I also hope that I can expand and extend my project towards other plausible restoration methods. My advice for other students is to follow their passion. You have to truly understand and be passionate about your topic. If you choose a topic just because it's "good" then there's no point in doing it. When it comes to judging you want to talk about something you are interested in:)

Abstract:The current project “We Are Stressed Out!” is an extension of my previous project “Who Do I Prefer? where a detailed study of the different factors contributing toward the bleaching of the coral was done. This project determines which restoration method (buoyant shade, electric current, base carbonate, and water aeration) was the most effective in restoring the stressed corals (Caulastrea Furcata) green trumpet.
