My name is Emily Lorincz and I am 14 years old. I am in grade 8 French Immersion at Glenmary School in Peace River, Alberta. I play the flute in my school band. I really enjoy Ukrainian dance and I have been competing in it for the past ten years. My hobbies include reading, baking and watching movies. In the summer, I like to go camping with my family to Jasper National Park. In the winter, I like to ski and snowboard at both our local hill and in the mountains. This is the second year I have done a science fair project; I was fortunate to attend our regional fair both times. This is my first year attending the CWSF, I am excited to see all the projects and meet new people. |

Défi: | Énergie | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Peace Country | Ville: | Peace River, AB | École: | Glenmary School | Sommaire: | A series of experiments were completed determining which combination of materials makes the strongest dirt battery. Aluminum, carbon, copper and zinc were tested in Boreal Forest dirt, sand, gardening dirt and mud. All dirt types worked similarly; sand produced the weakest results. Increasing the electrode surface area increased the electrical current in all tests. Dirt batteries produced one-eighth of the current of an AAA battery. |
