Biographie
My name is Madeleine Yeomans and I am a Grade 9 student at Chippewa Secondary School. I participate on many school sports teams such as cross-country running, golf, badminton and soccer. I play competitive ringette and soccer. Finally, I play the trumpet in the school band. Science is my favourite subject in school and I will pursue a career in some field of science. The inspiration for my project came from an episode of the CBC radio show Quirks and Quarks. They interviewed Alanna Mitchell, who wrote a book on microplastics in the ocean. I wondered if microplastics are in the lake in North Bay. I have not decided if I will do further research on this project. My advice for anyone thinking of doing a project is the hardest part of the whole project is coming up with your topic. After that, everything else is easy.

Sommaire:The purpose of my experiment was to see if microplastics from primary sources, such as personal care products and clothing, are bypassing the waste water treatment plant system and travelling into Lake Nipissing. I collected three samples at different times of day. I was able to identify and quantify these plastics.
