| I have been participating in Science Fairs since I was in grade 2. I was lucky enough to win Outstanding Individual Physical Science Project at the Manitoba Science Symposium for 2017 and 2018. I love researching projects or issues that interest me. I created a working Wind Turbine and Hydro Dam that produced electricity. I won awards for both. Participating in Science Fairs allows me to improve my presentation skills as well as writing and researching. I love sports, but most particularly hockey and lacrosse. My inspiration for this years project was a 4 Oceans bracelet I received from by Aunty. It got me thinking about pollution and waste in our oceans and what an individual could do to help. Pollution is ongoing problem that will affect my generation and generations to come, but small changes in habits combined with large corporation changes can move us in a direction to respect our planet. I would say to anyone who is thinking of starting a project, is just think of a idea that interests you. Passion is important and if it doesn’t interest you, find something that does. |

Microplastics – Can Washing a Blanket Pollute the Environment?

The purpose of my science project is to demonstrate through an experiment by washing clothes made of plastic materials, such as polyester, will shed microplastic fibres into the waste water and into the environment. |
