My name is Kelvin Leung and I am currently in Grade 9 at Fellowes High School. I have a great interest in Science. During an experiment when I was little, I burnt a mark in my kitchen by making a Kleenex catch fire when having a wire connected on a 6V battery, and I have been interested in electricity ever since. My favourite subjects in school are math and science, but I also enjoy most of the other subjects. My other interests are playing the piano, violin, badminton, and reading. In the previous years, I have entered the Math Kangaroo Contest and represented Canada to go to a Math Camp in France. In my community, I have volunteered to play the piano to raise money for the Cancer Society. I have also entered the Kiwanis Music Festival and won numerous awards. I participated in the Ontario Provincial Kiwanis Music Festival in June of 2011, and I will be going again in June of 2012. In the future, I want to pursue a career as an engineer or something science-related, and use my skills to get involved in the community in many ways. |
| Kelvin Leung Comparing Performances of Solar Photovoltaic Panels in Canada
Challenge: | Energy | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Renfrew County | City: | Pembroke, ON | School: | Fellowes High School | Abstract: | This project compares the performances of Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline solar photovoltaic panels. It also studies the effects of a snow thickness on the solar panel power outputs at various angles of tilt. The findings of this project are significant because they could raise issues of snow removal to regain solar panel performances. This is important for locations that receive significant amounts of snowfall. |
